Blue Progression Gem
Students can earn the blue progression gem by completing lessons in Tutor. To do this, they must complete and pass both an exercise and a test within Tutor. The blue progression gem cannot be earned through red retention gems. The pass mark for an exercise is 70% and 60% for a test. The reason for this is to see if the student has fully understood the learning objective. If the child passes one without the other, then they will not receive a blue progression gem, and the lesson will come up again.
Once a student gains a blue progression gem, a piece of the gem is added to their weekly gem counter. After collecting three pieces, the full weekly gem appears in the hexagon. Any additional blue progression gems earned beyond this will be displayed as a number in the centre of the gem.
Students are not limited to just three blue progression gems per week; they can earn as many as they’re able to! However, please note that due to the risk of burnout, Maths-Whizz recommends students not to exceed 90 minutes per week.
As an incentive for receiving three blue progression gems, the Play Zone is unlocked for the rest of that week - please note that the week starts again on Monday, regardless of when the Play Zone was unlocked for the student. If you have a home account, then the Play Zone is constantly unlocked.
Red Retention Gem
The Red Retention Gems section is a place where students can replay lessons they have previously passed. They will earn a Red Retention Gem piece for each unique exercise they replay and pass within a given week. After collecting three pieces, the full Red Retention Gem is completed for that week, but students can continue to earn more beyond this.
When students have earned both three Blue Progression Gems and three Red Retention Gems, they go into the Hall of Fame for that week and are given a crown. The more weeks they are in the Hall of Fame, the better their crown.
